- Correct idea · Earth's axial tilt
- Tilt changes the angle of sunlight and the length of daylight through the year. The hemisphere tilted toward the Sun gets more direct sunlight and longer days.
- Why not Earth's distance from the Sun?
- Both hemispheres are essentially the same distance from the Sun, yet have opposite seasons. Distance is not the main cause.
- Why not changes in the Sun's output?
- The Sun does not brighten and dim each month to create our seasons. Opposite seasons come from Earth's tilt, not a seasonal change in solar output.
- Why not Earth's orbital speed?
- Changing speed around the Sun does not explain the opposite sunlight angles and day lengths in the two hemispheres. Tilt does.
