Third-grade elapsed time asks how much time passes from a start to an end, often across an hour. Students jump to the next hour, then add leftover minutes, using a clock or a number line marked in 5-minute marks. The answer is a duration, such as 50 minutes, not a clock time.

What you practice
These are the Grade 3 Elapsed Time skills this quiz is built around.
- Find elapsed time within an hour, such as 2:10 to 2:45.
- Find elapsed time that crosses an hour, such as 9:40 to 10:15.
- Tell a duration from a start time and an end time.
A useful tip
Jump to the next hour first, then add the remaining minutes. From 9:40 to 10:15, it is 20 minutes to 10:00 and 15 more to 10:15, so 35 minutes. Subtracting the clock numbers as 15 − 40 does not work.
